I’m a Registered Social Worker with the BC College of Social Work (#15264) and Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (#852061).
I acknowledge my position as a white settler upon the unceded territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples, known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations, and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. As a social worker, I also recognize my profession’s ongoing legacy of perpetuating colonial violence against Indigenous people and communities. With this in mind, I commit myself to my responsibilities as a settler social worker, including but not limited to maintaining ongoing reflexivity and accountability for my own capacity for harm and resisting colonial power structures and modalities in my practice.
